Jazz and the Wicked Witch

A story by Nightshade.

Yes, Nightshade is writing again! She'd probably post this herself, but she lost her password, or so she tells me. You can ask to join, but I can't guarantee that you'll be added.

The sun rose, bright and brilliant, over the planet of Carrotus. Wind rushed gaily through the leaves of the forests, spinning lazily through meadows and swooping low to dive through cool springs of water. Red and gold sunlight crept slowly through the leafy canopies as the sun came up fully, presenting its smiling face to the world.
Lamps and lights flickered off as the rays swept over the incline of a hill to rest their gaze upon an enormous metropolis: Carrotus City. Buildings rose high into the air and traffic roared through the skies as the bustling behavior usually found in cities began. Skyscrapers shot upward to touch the very heavens, and large, complex hotels came just short of the high apartment buildings. However, the splendor of these buildings was diminished as to a dust mote next to a bottle of Windex as the magnificence of the Carrotan Castle came into view. Spiralling almost beyond view, the enormous castle shone with a golden light; and, fluttering boldly on the highest point of the tallest spire was a flag. Blue in color, it depicted a carrot with a green C surrounding it.
The inside was no less magnificent. Great staircases of incredible proportions spiralled upward to the luxurious top floors, or downward to the dank dungeons. These dungeons were the 'finest' in all of Carrotus, and were said to be of the highest security. Only the very worst of criminals were ever kept there, as the dungeon itself was said to be inescapable. Not one of the prisoners that had ever stayed there had, though not from lack of trying, pulled off such a feat. At least, not until ...
The guard came running up from the dungeons, clanking painfully to a halt and waving his arms frantically. "Help! Help! The prisoner has escaped!"
Jazz Jackrabbit, a green rabbit and also, incidentally, the Prince of Carrotus, came racing down the stone steps from his chambers, in his pyjamas, to see what all the commotion was about. He ran smack-dab into the panicking guard and reeled back, clutching his head.
"What prisoner?" he gasped, dropping his hands.
"Devan Shell, sir!"
Jazz's head came up with a start. "What?!?" he yelped. "Who did this?"
"Him!"
Jazz's gaze followed the guard's armored arm to a red-and-yellow bunny who was staggering into walls with his tongue stuck out and his eyes rolling madly.
"Spaz?" Jazz asked incredulously. The guard nodded fearfully, cringing as he replied.
"Y-yessir."
Jazz turned ghostly pale.
"Oh, no ..."

More tomorrow, as usual.
