Okay, I have found that it can bounce back and forth, but ONLY if the springs are on the ground (no wall springs). The springs need to be elevated above the bottom tip of the pole as well.

Edit: It should be roughly 6 tiles left/right and 2 tiles up from the location of the pole event.
