When playing bonus stages in JJ1, do you roll a lot? It's fast, but it does have the issue of somewhat crippling collisions with walls. Personally, I roll pretty much full-time and veer quickly to the left or right if there's an exit sign approaching. I crash into walls a lot more than I otherwise would, but I like to think that the added travel speed makes up for it, at least when not slowing down to navigate obstacles.

Every time I roll I veer uncontrollably into a wall and lose any extra speed I may have just acquired.

I roll often. I'm pretty good at this. Remember that you can still brake when rolling, so it's not that hard to stop from running into a wall or exit.

Why does it make you roll automatically if you walk fast

Oh, yeah, I forgot that detail. I go around rolling and braking. It's an unpleasant sound, but quite effective.

You can press Escape+y to exit bonus stages.

why does it always take me 15 years to learn these things

I roll only in bonus stages I know out of my head. That way I can brake while rolling right before walls and exit signs.
