I have good news everyone, dispite taking over a month I am glad to tell you Orbitz has now been blocked from playing online via the list servers.

(Now, let the party begin)

It took a while as one of the lists (Contrabandent) wouldnt enforce the ban in a timely manner, thus Orbitz could still play online dispite the other lists having him banned. Monolith and myself have agreed to disconnect from Contrabandent. With Contrabandent disconnected, orbitz wont be able to access an active list. This will require a minor repatch on some jj2 users clients if they havent yet done so. You can read about this on the MOTD on the GIP, both on j2o and http://digiex.net/jj2gip

Due to Orbitz constant bypassing, his ban has now doubled to 2 months. Also due to it not taken affect until today, his ban now officially starts. So he is banned until the 30/11/05. After then we will check to see if he causes anymore problems, and react much faster. If you see him online his IP and time/date should be recorded, and passed onto Monolith or myself. Apprehend logs prefered.

We do feel bad, well I know I feel very bad for how long this took. Users have been wanting Orbitz removed for months and it took until now to finally get it done. I personally have taken action to ensure if there is ever a next time, action will happen within days, not months. Orbitz has damaged our community, people playing online has been decreasing over time as most active servers were crashed. We would like to warn anyone who goes round crashing, we will be watching and taken action in some cases.

Now everyone, you have no excuses, get back to playing JJ2 online.

I'm sure I'm not the only one glad Orbitz is gone.

I was hosting a server last weekend, and cause Ajazz RAD's bot got banned he sent Orbitz (aka Goku DBZ) and he laser-crashed my server!

I'm half way across england at a friends uni so no where near the list server or a jj2 client, but if it really is orbitz and matches his IP (as posted in this thread somewhere) then it may be a good idea to inform Monolith (either on yahoo messenger or #jj2 on quakenet (http://www.jj2.info)

Although I am unable to use the listservers for reasons beyond my control, everyone, regardless if they can use the servers or not need to look at the pros and cons about the different possibilities of which actions to choose.

If we leave him alone, it will prevent people from using the listserve as we know it. Although we could techincally leave the listserves alone for a bit and then come back after a week, why should the general public have to suffer?

If the purpose of the game is to have fun, and this user is removing everyone's rights from the game, then shouldn't this suppression of rights allow us to moderate the servers? Isn't this the same as moderating the forums? Granted, there is a difference -- we forced onto ourselves the ability to control the listserves whereas we had no previous control. There was no initial agreement from the users that their conduct would be acceptable. In our case, by having the messageboards, the users who sign up agree to use the service at the expense of being moderated.

However, what if we could determine that his copy of jj2 was stolen, thereby removing all his rights to the program? Is there a way to determine this?

Even if we could not determine this, the new listserves are not a product of Epic Megagames and are thus subceptible to our discresion. Should rules be written up on this site of what the proper code of conduct should be by using the servers?

Also, what would Epic do? Epic is in favor of keeping as much publicity about their products that they too would have made the same decision as to ban someone from the listserve?

What it comes down to is this -- Does the fact that the user didn't agree to be moderated because Epic didn't orignally demand that the user agree to such terms a reason to allow him to stay? Wouldn't epic ban this person knowing that he is disrupting the user's rights? Even if they wouldn't, Epic is no longer in control of the listserves -- we are. We created new listserves on someone else's machine and allowed users to have access to that machine. Shouldn't we be able to create rules for using these servers?

I say that banning him is the right course of action, or at least preventing him from coming onto the servers for a determined amount of time. As an added tilt, the user is also disrupting the community that has developed around the game, although that's hardly a reason in and of itself to stop someone from playing.

Epic would have the resources to fix the bugs that are being exploited in JJ2. ;|

Thats NOT fair thats not fair just because i used ASD and cheated alot doesn't mean you should take the game away from i mean if u didn't like what i did u could of asked if i stopped. and even if you did your being like me know i may have been ruining the fun for others but now ur ruining the fun for me its not fair and i thought tis was a 1 month ban its been like 2-3 months plz give me a 3rd chance i know u thnik its too much but i reallly learned my leason plz =( i have nothing to do i played maple story and i traded my rare stuff for a runescape account then i got scammed (i have a lvl 30 maplestory account) (thats not importent) but u get the point plz unban me i am really really sorry =( maybe give me some privliges and later if i prove to be better give me the rest? plz!! i beg you all i am sorry community but plz unban me plz.

You crashed nearly EVERY server that came online during your access to the list servers. Why *would* we unban you?

To do so, smash your harddrive to bits. Buy a new harddrive and install Mac OS X. Then get Jazz Jackrabbit 2 for mac with all the needed patches and bits. That way you can play online with Jazz2 -- without haxxing programs!!

We can too take away your ability to play the game. On most games, you can be banned for using hacking tools. I don't see why JJ2 is an exception.
