Hahahaha, I live a couple of hours away from Anaiyu. I think I'll drive over there one of these days and have lunch with her or something. I might also consider getting some money together and drag PiZ and Trafton over here pay for plane tickets/hotel costs/whatever for PiZZa and Trafton. As far as the rest of you, shoo, you're paying for this on your own. ;-P

Get back on topic. (insert happy faces here.) It's kind of sad that hardly anyone else is planning, but hey, let's all instead bow down to Paul, our senior Convention planner.

The point of this topic is to organize a meeting of Jazz 2 players in North America. It is clear that it has said intention if you read it.

The United States is larger than Europe. Most of the people who go to the meetings are Dutch, or from neighboring countries. Even though multiple countries may seem big, it's only about the size of most moderately large U.S. states.

Here we go, here's my proof that Europe is larger than USA:

Europe (including whatever they own of Russia): As stated here
Continent Size:
9,938,000 sq km
3,837,081 sq miles
---------------------------
United States of America )including Hawaii and Alaska, so the 50 states and no territories): As stated here
Land Area
(50 states)
9,158,918 sq km (3,536,278 sq miles)

JJ, you're just talking about the US there. There's a whole different country tacked on top named Canada, and some of us live there ... that adds a lot more land mass to cover. Besides the fact that Traft lives in Alaska, and it would take a lot of work to get to one of these conventions from there.
If I was still in the Yukon we could prolly have a 2-person convention ;D

Please read a couple of posts before that post you quoted me from, CT. Because I was kind of challenged to prove that Europe is larger than America, with the given circumstancecs. And when they said America, they only meant: the USA (including Alaska and Hawaii, no territories). And then that vs. Europe (including whatever they own of Russia), alas I proved it.

Forget about the landmass argument. This is the most important piece of misinformation.

Hmm. Though arguing may seem to be the thing to do, it is actually quite counter-productive. The goal isn't getting any closer this way, and this is actually just making things even more complicated than they need to be.

It seems to me that when I'm offended, things only get worse when I loose my cool, and I don't think that the results are getting any better with you guys in the same situation. Furthermore, it is also no help to make quick judgements against people (and then blurt them out). First off, in such a case, you who are making such judgements are basing your assumptions, (in most cases), on an insuficient amount of evidence to support your case (and then in many cases, filling the rest of the gaps in with more assumptions).

I dunno if anyone here is hearing this (and understanding what I'm saying). But what I mean is, "quit bickering".

I was slightly offended by the "Americans are lazy" comment. And I'm sure that there were many who were offended by the comments about Western Europe being small. In both cases, I believe the accusers made uneducated statements. I apologize if I have typed something false.

And finally, traveling can be expensive over here. A round trip from Eugene, Oregon to a neighboring state could cost ... well... the price varries according to distance and the time of year, but it can be around 100 dollars, or it could be around 70 dollars, and stuff like that. Going by plane is rediculously more expensive (more than I care to pay). Then there's the issue of finding a place to stay, and taking into consideration food and a possible admitance fee (if the meeting place is a theme park). And with other expenses, the whole occasion could cost over a couple hundred dollars, and that is just a trip to a neighboring state.

You were not included because, at the time of the making of this list, you were not actively using the JCF. In addition, I do not have a magical tool that tells me where JJ2 players are from. I have added you as being from Indiana.

My home is in southwestern Michigan, and my university is near Lansing, Michigan, but I would only go to a meeting if it were extremely convienient.
Also, Eugene UOI lives near Detroit, Michigan, as far as I know.

babble
The reason there are so many jazzers in California is because there are so many people in California. It holds about 20% of the nation's population. Michigan holds about 6%, and almost all of the East Coast states are quite densely populated. I know some other jazzers who don't play online that much who live around here, too.
/babble

EDIT: Oops! I just found out that my figures are a little high - CA actually has 12%, and MI has 4%

Have you considered studying law and joining congress? It's amazing how you can change two words into two paragraphs just like that.

Nah, but I did see that it was looking like some sort of lawyer talk. That is why I translated :P.

Well, I figured I'd explain stuff. If someone just popped in and said "quit bickering", I'm not sure people would listen. But if I kinda painted a picture of what was going on, maybe they'd see why bickering is not the way to go. *shrugs*

Thanks, Mono.

I know this comment is somewhat late, but I do not actually live in Alaska. I had a joke location of Chicken, Alaska, where I do not actually live but actually does exist, and FQuist thought it was my real location. I actually live in Washington.

By the way, Tublear, that map includes some countries that are not considered European and seems to include more of Russia than really is part of Europe; not that this matters - the meeting was only Belgians and Dutch people, which makes the size definitely smaller than America.
