Never mind, I can now play and host properly ;P
EDIT: (-). While I can host without problems, after 30 sec-5min I time out after joining an online game. I've forwarded the port that jj2udp said I should. Still nothing. Anyone got a solution? EDIT2: nvm again Last edited by Eigus; Aug 10, 2008 at 11:38 AM. |

This is probably a stupid question, but how exactly does one go about forwarding a port on a router?
|
Sep 2, 2008, 06:33 PM | |
Go to www.whatismyip.com and enter your IP address in the address bar. From there, put in your router username/password.
Go to the port forwarding/port triggering/whatever tab (depends on your router) and from there you can tell it to forward ports 10052-10054 to your IP Address. To get your IP Address: go to start->run->type "cmd" without the quotes. When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig /all That will give you something like 192.168.x.x Well type that IP Address in as the address you want to forward the ports to. And I don't feel like explaining static IPs, if you want that, you'll have to rely on somebody else for it. Well that's the tutorial in a nutshell lol.

Wait, sorry. I still seem to be having problems. I forwarded the port, and using JJUDP I was able host, but when I tried to join another game it was incredibly laggy, and I still got the connetion timed out, although it did take a bit longer.

I have problems hosting, I can join other games, but when I try to host it just goes on pinging forever. The ports are correctly forwarded. Its frustrating, and is there any other variable(right word in english? ) that can cause this problem?
Im using Vista, and disabled the Vista firewall. But not Norton, as it for some reason is very tricky in this. I dont however get any warnings about connection "stuff". Ca nanyone help me? |

See if your router IP has changed, if that is the case you will need to create a static IP. Go to www.portforward.com and find your router, there should be a part about making a static IP.
Btw if anyone wants to help me: I once had connection probs and fowarderd my ports, then the problem was over. A few months later my router IP changed, when I found that out I solved the problem again, then someday I had those problems again, nothing seems to work including making a static IP, I could host first and only some people were able to join my server, then I tryed some things with my router and now I cant host anymore. I have the 30 sec problem in most servers except in the Zeal Alpha server, where I mostly can join normally. Normally, because I can use the -connect option at properties with which I can join most (public) servers. EDIT: My router is a Gigaset SX 552 WLAN dsl

My Operating System ist Vista Premium and yes the firewall is disabled. I have opened the ports 10052 to 10060 as UDP and TCP in my Router. I still get the whole 30 Seconds Discon thing. The Version is 1.24 JJ2 TSF LK Avalon Edition. i hope you can help me best wishes from Germany ![]() Jessa (former known as White) Last edited by Jessa; Dec 30, 2008 at 02:35 AM. Oh mah
You see, i have Vista, thus no instructions with the built in firewall
It automatically allows programs thru, with a pop up, (Would you like to keep blocking this program) I closed AVG (Virus scanner) I've had problem with it and downloading files... and even went as far ar shutting down my firewall.. Yet still after 30 seconds, i get Timed out.. PLEASE help, i have the update 1.23 but i can't figure out what's wrong I can host my own server without difficulty.. But if i try to enter someone else's.. It does not work |

It's not Vista, the problem lies in the way you connect to the internet. If you tell us about your modem and/or router, the physical tools used to make the internet connection, then we can guide you through how to open the ports blocking access.

You could google Hamachi. It's a freely downloadable program that sets up a local area network with other computers in the same network, using your normal internet connection. No need for messing with ports or routers or anything. Only downside is it can cause lag, and you can only join other games where the host is using Hamachi.

Plenty of people use it. Although you probably won;t be able to join random games, you will be able to play games if you communicate with the people hosting beforehand. For example, some of the official games in the Jazz Duelist Challenge this year have been hosted over Hamachi because of requests of people like you, who couldn't join normally.

30-Seconds time out problem
Hey I've the time out problem.
What I have tried: - Port forwarding: It didnt worked. I have filled in those things at the Port Range Forwarding page (10052 to 10054 TCP and UDP and checked enable). - JJ2udp: I have also tried this but it also didnt worked... I got a router (linksys) and there are 4 computers using it (1 vista and 3 xp's). I tried this on my vista because one xp is way too old, the other one got gateway problems and the last one is the one my dad uses. I also got Windows firewall (I turned it off but it had no effect) and McAfee 2009. Someone help please...? |

For those of you using JJ2 UDP Port Chooser, have you tried forwarding the port you chose? And what port numbers did you try to use? Some people have mentioned that they were able to join games without timing out when they join through the connect command line (e.g. using Run and Jazz2.exe -connect <some ip address>).
And Foly, what model is your Linksys router?

Did you forward the UDP port? If so and that didn't work, you may want to try port triggering instead. You should also try a port number under 1024 and use port forwarding/triggering with that.

Yep i did forward both TCP and UDP. I also tried port triggering (but i dont know if i did it on the correct way. Ive read you need to forward the 10052 UDP port because that one gets the messages that give information about movement, shooting, etc.. Why should i try under 1024, does it makes any difference? And should i send you a screenshot of my linksys forwarding screen + a dos screen with ipconfig?

Possibly, but I wouldn't know for sure. It doesn't hurt to try though.

I tried a port under 1024 but it didnt worked. If i host no others can join. However when i go to the site i can see my game. When i join i can also see people chatting and at the list i can see the pings (no problem with the ping, sometimes its like 35). I have also played some online games. And McAfee firewall isnt blocking jazzjackrabit, i went to advanced options there and enabled jazz jackrabit outgoing and ingoing things. I dont know about ISP or modem.
EDIT: I also see some people saying hamachi, do you think it will work if i use hamachi? And how does it work? (However i dont think that many ppl are using it, just want to know if it works) another EDIT: Woohoo! I used hamachi to log in into the server named: The Server and it worked ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Foly; Jan 17, 2009 at 01:08 AM. |

Just set the inbound and private ports to the same numbers/ranges.

Sometimes. You'll have to make sure you don't use your local IP adress (Usually 192.168.0.#) You can find the correct IP adress at http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/mis...s/showMyIP.php
Also, typing in the ip adress does not guarentee all connection problems will disappear, although it does help quite a bit.

Well, theguy159, I need timeout victims so that I can try to solve this problem through JJ2, but there haven't been a lot of volunteers. See this thread.

2. Follow the suggestions in the first post, and try other port forwarding programs/methods/etc. 3. As a last resort, hamachi will work for hosting duels or other events where other people will plan to join ahead of time. 4. After trying everything else and still being unable to host to the extent you want, report back here with many more details. What did you try? Did anything help at all? What type of computer are you using? What router? Were you ever able to host in the past? Can you join any server without CTOing or only servers with plus or none at all? Or any other relevant details you can think of. Your previous post doesn't give enough information for me to really be able to help.
