Today's the 20th anniversary of Jazz Jackrabbit so it's the best time to make an announcement! I know I'm notorious around here for hyping up my stuff and then not delivering, so let's cut it short to show I mean business this time:

Me and my band Two Games Joined are working on 4 tracks to commemorate this occasion as we speak! The title of the EP says it all: we're redoing songs from the 2nd episode of the game. Why the second? Well, I felt the 1st one was a little too overdone and the songs from Ballistic Bunny were always my favorite to tinker with (see my history of remixing JJ songs). The whole EP is stylized to preserve the feel of looping video game background music rather than individual songs, something akin to a remake perhaps! With JJ2+'s ability to play back mp3 files, you should be able to freely use them in your levels. Every track will come in a "2-cycles-and-a-fadeout" version and a properly looping version.

Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to finish everything today and it's going to take a couple more days, but! It's coming out somewhere around August 15th. I'd love to give a precise release date but I still can't be sure when I receive all the instrument tracks or the cover art, and I want to release the thing as soon as it's done! Still, unlike the other music-related announcement I made there will be no delay, no hiatus here. Top priority.

And you did read right - there's 4 tracks. The EP includes an original composition "in the style of" - a song for a mockup of a planet, a robot assembly compound hidden on a highly unstable volcanic planet which I dubbed Lavalon. In a few days I'm going to show you the "original" version of the song, which is in Tracker format and overall made to sound as authentic as possible, and it's also going to be included with the EP when it's done. So yes, to make the wait more interesting, I'm going to gradually show you some of the stuff as it's being done.

If you haven't heard yet, here's Letni as it sounded in December. Complaints have been heard and the song will be remastered for the final EP.

Here's the "original" version of Lavalon, the original composition "in the style of" made for this EP to be remixed along with all the Ballistic Bunny songs! The .MOD file should be up on The Mod Archive soon - I'm waiting for moderator validation. I realize that Jazz Jackrabbit songs are actually in .PSM, but this format is still something I'm not sure I can work with, so I chose the closest realistic option possible.

Arrangement is finished! Right now we're putting together everything that had to be recorded, then it's on to mastering!

Though I've been a fan of Mr. Sutton's work for a while now, I approached him with the request as a complete stranger. The main impulse was that I just felt his style would do the original episode picture great justice, and as you can see it does! But what surprised me the most, was that though my request was that of a commission, he offered to do it for free! Truly, work on this project keeps reminding me that there are still selfless people in this world. Make sure to check out his other works!

Current status: 1 song left to mix, then it's all mastering. Expect the release somewhere next week, but for now I'm going to upload the demo for Technoir remix tomorrow! It's... HEAVY.

Mastering is taking a bit longer than expected, we have half of the songs done but still need some time to finish the other two. Luckilly, Eigus is helping out to finish what's left so shouldn't be too long now!

Hey, I know it's been a few days since I promised a leak, but to be honest we just keep messing with little things in the song until I'm fully satisfied. Wouldn't call an unfinished thing finished, no sir.

But! To make up for this, we're finishing the mastering for good on Sunday! So expect the release Sunday-Monday. Depends how long it'll take to upload and process everything.

And here we are! Exactly a month after its announcement, here comes Ballistic Bunny!

As promised, the EP contains remixes of all the 3 songs from the 2nd episode of Jazz Jackrabbit, both in '2 loops and a fade-out' and a cut-off looping format, plus the original track 'in the style of' Lavalon and its "original" version in .mod and another stream format of your choice.
