I'm making a single player level pack.
I just figured I should announce it. It's not going to be your usual single player pack, you see.
First off, I should point out that the episode will be rather non-linear. The levels will sometimes have 2 exits, and (according to my plans), you can play through them a whole 5 times while visiting different levels on each run-through. Overall, there will be 6 "main levels", but they will be HUGE. I estimate that you won't be able to save in any of them (due to memory errors), but I am going to provide checkpoints and lots of extra lives, so don't worry. There will also be small 20x15 levels between the big ones which you can save in. Anyway, the 6 main levels will be huge, and sometimes you will re-visit them in the future, with changes made according to what you did in a previous level. Think of the central cavern in "Tomb Rabbit". In other words, sometimes 1 level will have 3 versions, each with different routes and exits. Sound confusing? I don't care. The story is as follows: Once upon a time the Capitol City of Deserto (a jj1 planet) got invaded by hordes of monsters, and eventually the city was destroyed. The only "safe" spot left in the whole city is a small corner which is barricaded off. You, some random guy living in the barricade, somehow get the amazing idea that it might be helpful if you climb over the wall and find the source of these monster-raider-attacker guys. You set out on a journey to reach a gigantic temple by the city, and wind up in outer space somehow. Oh, and there's a space station orbiting Deserto because the "scientists" prefer to have it there (as opposed to on the ground), it being a space station and all. Tilesets Used: Jazz1 Deserto (Violet) Temple (EvilMike) Jazz1 Battleships (CelL) Top Secret 3 (Overlord) Mez03 (I forgot who made this tileset) Read my sig if you want to know how much progress I have made so far. Why did I make this post? I need a name for the level pack. Any suggestions?

As for a name, the only thing I can think of right now is EvilMike's EvilPack, but that's corny.
Down with corn. |
Sep 8, 2002, 10:14 AM | |
"Exuberant Heroism"
|
Sep 8, 2002, 12:52 PM | |
"Monochromatic Screaming"?
Or how about "some random guy living in a barricade somehow gets the amazing idea that it might be helpful if he climbs over the wall and finds the source of some monster-raider-attacker guys"! Neh, I'd have to go with "Teh Ungodly Episode of Ultimate Doom".

I got two words for you:
GOOD LUCK!!! Heh, I only ever made one SP level pack (2 if you incluide that arcade thing but I doubt anyone could call that an SP level pack), and that was because Martin told me its great fun to make them. As far as levels are concerned martin is my hero, but I would disagree on his statement for SP level packs ![]()

I think evilmike is trying to make an RPG or at the least, has been inspired by one.

I cheer you on, evilmike! (I figured it would use your Temple tileset after reading the description. Great tileset, btw.)
Sounds like an excellent pack. Don't let it go down the drain like Dethman's Cyberspaz did. AJ2f

Progress Report
1 out of the 6 "main levels" is now complete, although a few small aspects will be changed sometime in the future once I get around to it. I also have completed the introduction and am more than half way done the second level. Expect the pack sometime in december or early next year.

As for a pack name, "Single Player Pack of Evil." Simple, yet powerful. ![]() |

Hmm... Evilmike's Evil pack of randomness.

And at about 2% a day..
|
Sep 12, 2002, 11:55 AM | |
Wow, Mike, you really think you can get it out that soon? Best of luck. My sp pack, DSW, has been in the works for years (although it has progressed relatively slowly and I have gone months without working on it.) I still don't expect it any time soon.
Yeah, I like "Operation Deserto Storm". Great name for it. And I love the storyline. (Esp. because my rabbit character, Jason Jackrabbit, comes from Deserto!) Well, if the pack is made by EvilMike, you know it has to be good. I will be counting the days. AJ2f

It only changes about 1% a day. Mike likely is doing a tile an hour.
![]() |
Sep 12, 2002, 02:56 PM | |
He doesn't spend ALL his time making levels. So he probably sets aside an hour or so and just works on the levels. Not a bad idea. I think I will try to complete at least a level a month, because I haven't been getting anywhere with my episode. (You all probably saw Electric Nightmare and Ocean of Acid. These are both part of the pack, although Electric Nightmare will be majorly updated. They are the only levels that have exits, the next closest to completion is Treetop Village, which is almost half finished. Many levels just have a little bit at the beginning.)
Anyway, sorry for being off topic. It is related, though. AJ2f

Well, still, 1% a day = 80+ more days. Oh, that was his goal.
NEVERMIND. ![]() |

Oh for those who don't get it, "Operation: Deserto Storm" is a play on the name "Operation: Desert Storm", which I -think- (not sure), was the mission to kill Saddam Hussein.

I'm not going to use "Operation: Deserto Storm" because I don't want a name that is a play on the name of another game. My level pack is nothing like the game, and shouldn't share a similar name.
That sounded funny. I think I ryhmed too much. I misspelled that.
